Principal's Report

Dear Families,

2025 Government Schools Principal Conference

This week, I had the privilege of attending the 2025 Victorian Government Schools Principal Conference at the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre alongside over 3,000 school leaders from across the state. The conference provided valuable insights into the latest evidence-based practices and departmental initiatives supporting both student learning and wellbeing.

It was affirming to see that the many strategies, programs and systems we've been implementing at Wallington over the past 18 months are directly aligned with the latest research and the work of high-performing schools across Victoria. It’s an exciting path—and we’re already seeing the benefits.

Our staff’s dedication, hard work, and shared belief in continuous improvement are driving real momentum and positivity for our wonderful school. We are deeply committed to holding onto what makes Wallington unique - our strong sense of community, connection to environment, all underpinned by our ‘Why Statement’ - while maintaining high expectations and outcomes for every student.

Being a small, semi-rural school doesn’t limit our ambitions. We’re proud to be enhancing a culture where high academic expectations go hand in hand with student wellbeing - where children are happy, healthy, and thriving. Thank you for your continued support as we build on all that makes Wallington such a wonderful place, striving every day to become even better for our students, families, and community.

Reminder: Four-Day Weekend & Wallington Wellbeing Day

Please enjoy the four-day weekend:

  • Monday 9th JuneKing’s Birthday Public Holiday

  • Tuesday 10th JuneCurriculum Day (student-free)

This will be followed by Wallington Wellbeing Day on Wednesday 11th June, a special day celebrating our school values. Students are encouraged to wear a splash of colour representing our values:

  • Blue for Be Respectful

  • Green for Be Responsible

  • Pink for Be Resilient

The day will include a range of wellbeing-focused activities for students, finishing with an after-school celebration from 3:20pm – 4:30pm. Families are warmly invited to join in the fun, with challenges, activities, and a coffee van onsite. We look forward to seeing you there!

Strawberry Fair – Calling Stall Holders and Sponsors!

We have seen high demand with applications for Strawberry Fair stall holders, since they were opened just last weekend. See website for more details – feel free to spread the word and sign-up soon as at this rate we will very shortly reach capacity. There are also sponsorship opportunities on offer, so if you are a business or know of a business who would like to be involved get in touch and fill out an expression of interest via the links on the website.

New Building - Main Building Painting
As we near completion of the extension, we are now looking forward to moving in! Preps and Year 1s are excited to be the first classes in the new classrooms, preparing to move in over the next few weeks. Additionally, we are very pleased that the budget has allowed for additional painting into the main building hallway and classrooms. These works will require some coordination, with temporary relocation for some classes. Next week, to allow for painting of their classrooms, Year 3 will run their classes out of the library and Year 4 will work in the spare classroom next to the Year 6 room (opposite the hall).

Thank you and have a wonderful long weekend!

STEM & First Nations Studies

Dear Families,

Enjoy watching our latest video from STEM/First Nations classes.

Thankyou to the families who have already donated boxes for our STEM projects, it is much appreciated.

STEM still needs lots of small boxes and shoe boxes over the few weeks. If you also have any old matchbox cars and Lego figures that you would be happy to donate it would also be much appreciated for upcoming activities.

Wellbeing at Wallington

This week’s activity asks students to reflect on their mindsets when they make mistakes in their learning.

As we know, learning cannot happen without making mistakes and that it can be an uncomfortable experience for our students. T

  • Try sharing your experiences with making mistakes and learning

  • What strategies did you use to help you learn and improve?

Hello Wallington families,

After the success of last year’s whole school Welbeing day, we are planning another on Wednesday the 11th of June.

Students will spend the day participating in wellbeing activities with their class, playing games in multi-age groups and activities organised by our Junior School Council. After school there will be a range of activities for students and their families to complete.

We have organised a coffee van, The Brew That Is True, for the afternoon activities to provide us with a caffeine boost to keep up with the students' enthusiasm.

We will share more information about the day in coming weeks, so keep an eye out!

Thankyou to our all Wallington P.S. families for their kind donations of jam and vegemite to our breakfast club.

We would also like to thank the Bogan family for their generous weekly donations of bread from Bakers Delight. We couldn’t do it without you all. Thankyou!
